IT'S MY FIRST TIME VISITING PRELLWITZ PRODUCE. WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
We’re so glad you’re planning your trip to Prellwitz Produce! Check out our What to Expect page to learn more about the Prellwitz Produce experience from start to finish.

SHOULD I BRING MY OWN CONTAINERS FOR PICK-YOUR-OWN STRAWBERRIES?
We've got you covered! We provide cardboard flats and/or quart containers for you to use, so you do not need to bring your own containers. We do offer a 25-cent discount per flat if you bring and reuse your flat from a previous Prellwitz Produce visit. View current pricing here

I HAVE THE BEST DOG IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD. CAN I BRING HIM TO THE FARM?
Sorry, we ourselves are dog lovers, but we do not allow visitors to bring dogs to the farm. If you do inadvertently bring a dog to the farm, one member of your party will be asked to stay with your dog in the parking area. That’s no fun for anyone, so we wouldn’t recommend it.

DO YOU ALLOW SMOKING ON THE FARM?
Smoking and e-cigarettes are not allowed beyond the parking area.

DO YOU ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS?
We accept cash, checks and credit cards at the farm. We prefer cash and checks to avoid transaction fees when possible, but we accept credit cards as needed.

WHEN IS STRAWBERRY SEASON?
Strawberry ripening depends on Mother Nature and therefore is unpredictable from one year to the next.  As a general rule, strawberry season typically begins in mid-June and sometimes extends to the first week of July. We spread the word as soon as we know more about the season’s start so that you can plan accordingly. Please check our Berry Watch section of the homepage for picking conditions before and during strawberry season.

IS THE FARM SUITABLE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN OR THE ELDERLY?
Strawberry picking is a memorable event and many customers make it a family affair. That's great! The farm is a bustling and busy place, however, so we ask that you keep your children with you and closely monitor them to avoid tractors, parking lot traffic and other hazards.

Strawberry picking involves a lot of squatting or sitting on the ground, but we have had customers of all ages in the patch. During our regular strawberry season, we offer tractors rides to the field and we have a picnic bench with water available near the checkout stand if it’s needed. Of course, strawberry picking can be tough work. Please speak to your doctor if picking is of any potential concern for you.

WHAT IS "ROAM THE PATCH" PICKING?
During the end of strawberry season, there are still good berries in the patch but they are not always concentrated to one particular field. At that time we switch to “Roam the Patch” picking, where you drive your vehicle to the field and pay for your berries during checkout. Our website, social media accounts and telephone message will inform you of the change. Tractor and wagon rides are not offered during this time. We will have staff on hand to offer suggestions and direct you to where you need to go.

IS PRELLWITZ PRODUCE AN ORGANIC FARM?
Prellwitz Produce is not an organic farm, but we pride ourselves in growing the tastiest strawberries we can with the smallest ecological footprint.

We use an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan to use pesticides only when there is a need. We rotate our fields with different crops every three to five years to help prevent the buildup of soil diseases that can create problems for berries. We do not "fumigate" the soil, as is sometimes done in fields with a continuous strawberry crop.

In extraordinary circumstances, insects or diseases make it necessary to save the crop. In those instances we use the safest product available to make sure the berries are safe to eat. We do as much as we need to do to address the problem, but no more.

In the infrequent instance that we do have to address insect or fungus issues,  we use products that have a 0 to 4 day “pre-harvest interval,” meaning the crop can be treated and then eaten 0 to 4 days later.

We are in the patch with you working and eating straight from the fields with our children and grandchildren, so we want you to feel safe and enjoy your strawberry picking experience. Contact us if you have any further questions.
